Runners Hi

New to personal blogging, not new to running

Well there you are! I’m so excited you have taken precious moments of your time to read my blog. I’ve decided to write about one of my main passions since ninth grade, running. Now some of you “real” runners whose bodies efficiently attain less than 9 minutes per mile may deem my measly 9.4 min/mile rate as more accurately termed “jogging.” But for simplicity’s sake, and to avoid the ever-so-painful bubble-bursting, we’ll just let me continue to perceive my daily endeavor as a run. I appreciate your flexibility. Really. You’re too magnanamous. I don’t know how to spell that.

A little background. I grew up around a family runner. My dad. Dad keeps the same routine he demonstrated for my two siblings and I since before we can remember. He regularly would leave the house or hop on the treadmill (located on hardwood to enhance the already all-too-high level of noise at 7am) for a 3 1/2 mile run. Then he would finish his exercise with grunt-worthy sit-ups and push-ups in our basement. Good old-fashioned work outs. No fancy equipment. No specialized shoes or fashion, just some cheap reebox and a steady thirty-minute pace.

When I turned 14, I traded in my banana splits and Little House on the Prarie watching habit after school for an attempt at healthier living. Really, I was now a teenager and succumbing to the pressures to be just a little thinner and fitter, thinking maybe looking good would make my social life more exciting. At this time, I would attempt about three miles and then in my prideful glory skip the stretching and make my banana split a little smaller. Eventually, the mileage grew, the ice cream cravings lost their control, and I found my inner runner.

Thus begins my runners hi blog. And her life was never the same since.
