Runners Hi

Six, Five, Four…Six, Five, Four

I have developed a new running pattern for myself while not in training. The next race I’m planning on entering is a 10K trail run in March. Until then, I needed a way to break up each run a little. I’ve been running the same route (creature of habit) since September and now that it’s quite familiar I’ve added a new approach. I know, I know, many of you out there in running blog world gasp at my insistence on running the same route over an over again but in my own defense – i’ve done it for years and it works for me. Anywhere i’ve lived I spend a week or two feeling out the area and I have always found a route that suits me and I stay with it. Knowing the path so well allows me to let my mind run wild rather than concentrating on where i’ve gone and where i’m going to go next and how long i’ve been running and where to turn around….

So my new approach is to do six miles, five miles the next day, four miles the next, and start over at six again. I have also chosen Sunday as a day to take a break each week since I attend church in the morning and it often becomes full with family lunches, social get-togethers, and I go to a second service in the evening.  So far my plan is working – the variety breaks up potential monotony and now that i’m going to the gym at least two to three times a week, I stay reasonably sore and worked out at all times. What can I say? I’m a beast.
