My Life Lately
I’m very proud of myself. Lately i’ve been getting up early on a regular basis and I think i’m finally accustomed to a morning routine. Praise the Lord. It feels good to get as much accomplished as early in the day as possible. I’m determined to run almost first thing either on the treadmill at the gym (might as well, right?) if it’s still freezing cold – which is the norm considering it is winter – and run my usual route at least twice a week braving the weather and planning ahead to do it on the warmest days of the week.
I’ve been posting less lately – sorry about that. The reason is great though and a direct response to a few months of prayer, indecisiveness, and frustration. I have not worked since October when I was told to wait for an unknown amount of time for the company to decide whether they still wanted me doing their website blog posts or not. Yes, I blog on a professional level too. It’s a long story and sort of fell in my lap and is very hard to explain, but I was a blogger by trade. Well, now that the new year is rolling, the company has wanted me to start posting again and on top of that I was offered another deal by a guy that got ahold of my name and number. Sweet, huh? So i’m working again, the perfect amount of hours and from my laptop. Now you know why I lingered around waiting for such an opportunity again. Talk about convenience. Talk about flexibility. It’s great.
So it’s cold, i’m blogging and more blogging, and running and using the gym and leading a worship service at church again. That’s my life lately in a nut shell. What are you up to?
Fire, Ice, and Bloody Ankles
I think winter is finally here. I’ve been fascinated by the treacherous ice storms further west and wishing they would come my way to Virginia. We have had such lukewarm, mile temperatures that there’s been no hope of any kind of “winter weather” and I’ll admit that I like a little ice or snow each year. We usually boast about 10 inches at least by the time the season is over but so far zippo. I realize asking for ice is quite different from snow, but that’s the norm for us and I have fond memories of being stuck inside with a fire in the fireplace 24-7, no power, a book, and a blanket. It’s also a very legitimate excuse to take time off of running and just be warm and cozy.
Speaking of running, i’ve been staying consistent with my 6-5-4 goal and going to the gym two or three times a week. My new asics are working out well although my sock was soaked in blood this morning where my shoe had rubbed the back of my ankle raw. I think the socks were too thin and i’d had a sore there already from another pair of shoes. It’s always nice to peel the running gear away and discover the bloody remains of your intense workout. Makes you feel like a real athlete.
Tripping Over Treadmills
It’s been a busy week. It’s been an even busier day today. In order to fit in my workout routine for the day, I was forced to pull up to the gym long before sunrise. I debated over whether to run on the track or the treadmill and settled for the treadmill after noting two “joggers” on the track. These “joggers” might as well have been walking and either way the track is simply not wide enough for any type of running that parallels what the great outdoors offers. In other words, getting around people on that track is a huge pain the the rear. So if it’s occupied then my hopes are dampened. I strolled over to the treadmill and started huffing away. I was about fifteen or so minutes into my run when I became engaged in a news story that I couldn’t hear about the boney models controversy appearing on a television screen in my peripheral vision. Then….I ran into the front of the treadmill with quite a bit of force and wailed around for a few seconds to get back on balance again. I sheepishly looked around but kept my face like that of a serious runner who runs into the front of treadmills all of the time. What are you all looking at? Sheesh…
