I graduated from Virginia Tech three years ago. My younger brother and sister are currently a sophomore and freshman. They are fine. You can read my latest posts following the events of yesterday here.

Come on, May Flowers!!

So it’s suddenly winter again. Joy. I have been contemplating finding a new route to run lately but it’s incredibly difficult in the area that i’m living. I live in the southwestern part of Virginia that is hilly and even mountainous. The part of the county that I happen to live on is one of the hilliest areas within a hilly region. It makes for challenging runs that provide me with the strength and endurance I need for races, however, it is entirely too challenging for the day-to-day jog. I have been realizing that I am less and less motivated to run the route I have been used to since September (when I moved to this side of the county) because it’s DAGGON HARD!!

I thought the nice weather coming with Spring would help, but it’s not the weather, it’s the hills. So this morning I attempted a new area. I have to drive down the street to get there, but there is a one mile stretch of flatter road and even more desireable – a sidewalk!! I knew I would have to repeat the stretch a couple of times back and forth to amount to four – five miles. After one attempt, I think i would rate it a 7 out of 10. It’s flatter, yes, and there’s a sidewalk, yes. However, it’s much more trafficky and public – and I shy away from running in places I may be seen by familiar people (yikes!) and although it’s flatter than the steep hills i’m used to doing at intervals, it’s still a gradual climb up for an entire mile until turning around. Maybe not any better than flat, steep, steep downward, flat, steep, plunging back down, flat…. Still not sure about it becoming my routine route, but I do think it warrants a second try when the weather is more pleasant and I’m ready for new scenery again.

You Must Be Out Running

I just had to comment that the running community on here must be spending much more time running than at the computer – the communication is drastically slower!! I don’t blame us – it’s spring!!
