Runners Hi

Here We Go Again

It’s been a rocky start, but I think Philip and I are finally in the swing of training. According to our chart, we have 11 weeks left until the Baltimore marathon and some heavy mileage weeks ahead of us. We’re just starting to be in the thick of it now, hitting around 25-30 miles a week and rising.  Philip has been struggling to find time to put in long runs and we took a few days off from our rigid schedule this past week to mourn the passing of a friend of ours, Pam.

We finally got the chance this morning to do a solid run together like i’ve been wishing we could do more often. We did it with the intentions of going 9 miles, which Philip finished but I have already had the opportunity to do a nine miler so I went the extra mile to make it an even 10.

Ahhh, feels good. The half marathon is coming up and we were starting to wonder if we’d ever be able to take our training seriously. But…here we go again!!

New Shoes, New Route, New Runner

Philip and I bought new shoes on Thursday evening. Some girls get a manicure or massage when they feel like treating themselves. I get the employee at Fleet Feet to put Asics on my feet and lace them up for me. Ahhh, feels good. I even got special sole inserts this time too. Not completely sure how I feel about them as they cause my feet to rise a little high above the heel while I run but so far they haven’t caused any aches or pains so I think I’ll keep them. I was experiencing a constant ache on the top of my left foot and was hoping new shoes would take care of that. So far I haven’t had any pain since trying them out. I figured it was a combination of old, worn shoes and the ridiculous slanting on the road I run on. Slanting roads have become the bane of my running existence.

Roanoke Star

Just in case you were wondering, the header is the Roanoke star situated at the top of Mill Mountain in Roanoke.  Around here it’s quite the novelty. We love our star. Also why the city is nicknamed the “Star City” but I don’t think it’s the only one with that nickname. Just the only one with the world’s largest man-made star sitting on a mountain. We’re cool.
