Runners Hi

Watches, Zunes, New Running Goals

Merry Christmas! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

Phil and I received new ironman sports watches from his sister and we are thrilled. I’m not one to load up on the gadgets but having a sports watch should definitely help me stay motivated to compete against myself this upcoming new year. I think it’s about time I had an edgier perspective on running – every run is an opportunity to improve on something like my time or stride or breathing…Our new Zunes (yes, zunes – NOT Ipods) should also help us become better runners this next year.

I ran six miles Monday but ran out of time to run between the mashed potatoes, broccoli slaw, and loading up the car with gifts to take to Phil’s family on Christmas day. So far I haven’t experienced the winter blahs that typically hit hard about this time of year and cause my motivation to get out and run in the cold to take a plunge. If I get the job I’ve been waiting to open up at a local publishing company then we’ll get gym memberships again which always helps in those cold, boring Jan-March months. I’ll keep you posted on that situation.

Have a fun, safe new year!

The Worst Part of Pre-Marathon

Has to be the waiting. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this marathon to happen and be over FOREVER!!  The hardest part about this marathon so far has not been the training or the longest runs or the hot weather but the WAITING AND WAITING AND WAITING to do the dang thing. GEEZ.

I was sick last week and unable to run for about five days. I think it was food poisoning – ugh, nasty sickness. I have run the past couple mornings and plan to run tomorrow morning, all short runs of course, and then FINALLY the next run I will do will be the marathon.

So how about that Chicago Marathon being called off? That was encouraging knowing mine is the weekend after, haha. Fortunately they’re calling for a cold front just in time. Whew!

12 miles and then The Devil

On Saturday Philip and I went out to do 12 miles. The training at this point is so predictable…add a mile to the long runs each week and run more than you ever have in your life on the days in between. *Sigh* When we pulled up to the church we usually park at along Callaway road, there was quite a shindig going down. There were tents up and people milling about – at 7:00 in the morning on Saturday! The sign said they were hosting a World Hunger Auction. I have to laugh because that’s typical of this area. The younger generations go to Roanoke to see a movie, eat out, and shop, and the older SW Virginians go to the church auction, antique car shows, and yard sales.  I love it. (more…)
